what would you rather buy at a party? Chocolate, Candles, or gourmet foods?

I am thinking about selling Dove Chocolate at Home, Gold Canyon Candles, Partylite candles, Tastefully Simple or Homemade Gourmet. Anyone out there involved with or in the past with any of these companies and what is your experience good or bad? Thanks!

I agree – I’ve been selling Gold Cayon candles for over three years now and I still love them as much today as I did then. They are the easiest things to sell and everyone loves them. In three years, I’ve only had one complaint and it was easily fixed and a new candle was supplied. Gold Canyon are leaps and bounds stronger and cheaper than Partylite and the big ones run about $5 cheaper than the Yankee big ones!

The one big thing I would ask, is how many demonstrators do you have in your area of each one of those groups? I live in a small town in Ohio and we have a ton of Mary Kay (although that wasn’t on your list) – but I have 11 friends who sell it. Tastefully Simple and Pampered Chef are the second most covered companies in this area. Three years ago no one knew who Gold Canyon was and it seems like the fewer the Demonstrators in an area, the better they do. If there are a lot in your area, it can be hard to get customers away from already established connections. It’s not impossible, it just can be rough.

The last thing are percentages you get. I know Gold Canyon isn’t as high as others, but with all the repeat sales I have, I make more than I would with other places. Also, with some products it can take a long time to use them all up and need to order more. My customers are always burning candles and ordering more!

i want to start a new business dipping treats like pretzels, apples, marshmallows, licorice, oroes etc? i also want to use a high quality chocolate but don’t know which one to use.

For baking?
Are you willing to pay more for it?
How often do you buy it compared to buying regualr chocolate(such as hersheys or nestle’s)

I prefer Godiva,See’s or World’s Finest Chocolate(anything with almonds and toffee) to eat and for baking I prefer Ghirardelli’s or Godiva.

We have godiva shops in our town centers its a dream …..it’s the best ..We have two shops within five miles..they are absolutely to die for!
I dont bake w chocolate a lot my family wont eat it..
they prefer carmel apples or an angel food cake etc.
Yes I will pay more for quality.
I do purchase hersheys in the summer for the kids to sit around the open fireplace and roast marshmallows and hershey bars on graham crackers..for some reason the chocolate there is ALWAYS gone.

i am interested to set up a cafe selling quality coffee and gourmet chocolate…do you think working for cafe or chocolatier will be an alternative to learn the ropes of business in this line?

Definetly start in the coffee shop. learn the ropes so that when you do get your own shop, you don’t look like an idiot that can’t even run their own shop.
And with the chocolate thing, are you going to be making your own candies? Because then you might want to get into a pastry class at the local community college or something, because if you ask to do a stage at a chocolatier and have no experiance, they probally won’t let you even near the production area…especially if you are going to be a competitor one day.
